Performance Tip of the Week: Tension Release

Bracing is a term that describes tight and tense muscles such as lifting your eyebrows, or lifting your shoulders. People can get tense when they are tired or nervous. Practising tension release daily can break the bracing habit and lead to muscle relaxation and better health & performance through improved circulation and improved energy levels.

Tension Release involves becoming aware of muscle tightness and body position. This awareness is built through consistently asking yourself several questions:

-    Can I drop my shoulders?
-    Can I relax my hands? Stomach? Legs? Forehead?
-    Can I sit in a more comfortable position?
-    Can I relax and deepen my breathing?

Try to recognize when an area of your body is tense, and then release and let go of the tightness. If you're interested in learning more about this skill, or how to apply this technique to improve your own performance contact us.
